meet Koebe:

Every animal who comes to Animal Rescue League has a story, but some leave a lasting imprint on our hearts. Koebe's journey began as a tiny kitten fighting to survive, but it became so much more than just a rescue. It became a reminder of why every life deserves compassion, dignity, and the opportunity to be loved.

A Tiny Life Worth Saving -

Koebe was discovered as a tiny kitten beneath a freeway overpass. Weak, injured, and covered with ants, he was rushed to our veterinarian for emergency care. Although his condition was critical, he fought to survive, and we were determined to give him that chance. From that day forward, he would never have to face life alone again.

A Place to Belong -

Although Koebe recovered, the injuries to his nose never completely healed. Throughout his life, he struggled with breathing problems and recurring nasal infections. Because of those lifelong medical issues, we knew it would be difficult for him to find an adoptive home. But that never changed the value of his life.

Koebe became part of the Animal Rescue League family, where he spent his days surrounded by the people and animals who loved him. He greeted volunteers with cheerful conversations and often shared his safe, cozy space with frightened cats who found comfort simply by being near him. Although Koebe never had a home of his own, he never spent a day without one.

Love's Hardest Decision

Years later, Koebe was diagnosed with nasal cancer. Radiation treatment helped for a time, but when the cancer returned and chemotherapy became harder on him than the disease itself, we faced one of the most difficult decisions rescue organizations ever make. We chose to focus on keeping him comfortable, peaceful, and surrounded by familiar faces who loved him. It was our final gift to a very special friend.

Koebe's Legacy

His story reflects the belief that has guided Animal Rescue League since 2003.
